Lately I've felt like I'm constantly attached to my phone. But I promise, there is a reason. When I started my travel business, I needed a way to get my name out there, to put myself out there. So, I started with what I knew best, social media. Back when I worked as a digital strategist, I learned very quickly that social media has to be your best friend, especially for those looking to be self employed. It's all about the traffic and finding your niche. With that mindset, I just didn't want to stop at building my travel business. I wanted to build my brand. I'm a blogger and a travel agent. I utilize the digital world to give users a peek of my life. It's not easy but it's something that has to be done if I want to build a following.
A friend of mine mentioned joining groups. He said that it was one of the ways to see how others ran their businesses but to also find interest in what you do. That's when the lightbulb hit. Join, join, join. I will admit that it is definitely time consuming. You also see many of the same posts in each groups. However, the groups that I have joined, allow you to post your social links, what you do and search for advice when in need. And so it began. Posting my links time after time, starting a separate instagram from my personal page, communicating with others that have a similar mindset and creating traffic for both my website and facebook pages. It has also given me the confidence in the idea that I can succeed at this.
It's been empowering to see women in different walks of life becoming their own bosses. It has also been motivating. So, the best advice that can come from someone starting from the bottom and building herself up is collaborate, create content and build your own following. Take a few hours in your day to freshen up your website, search for content and communicate with those in your groups. You'd be surprised how many people want to see you succeed just as much as you do. It's an amazing feeling and beneficial to your brand.
Good luck and happy building!
